From The CEO - Dr. Rick Townsend

Rick Townsend - CEOWelcome to the Golden Isles Career Academy. As Chief Executive Officer, I am thrilled to be a part of this dynamic educational facility and proud to represent the students, faculty and Board of GICA as the CEO.

The Career Academy is in the ninth academic year of operation. During our first eight years we enjoyed many highlights and impressive growth which included the arrival of Coastal Pines Technical College as our advanced learning, post-secondary educational partner. Our foundation has made financial commitments to support our students Over $30,000 in scholarships has been awarded to our students in the past five years.

Additionally, over $30,000 has been given to support student’s travel for their academic competitions such as robotics, automotive, welding, and graphic design. We also support service learning and volunteerism at the Career Academy. We’ve helped out partners such as the Coastal Youth Symphony, Golden Isles Ballet, Goodwill, Kiwanis and Manna House. The foundation is a 510 (c) (3) nonprofit and a United Way agency.

The Career Academy is unique because of the implementation of the business led governance system where the CEO reports to a Board of Directors which consists of business leaders. This is truly unique within the College & Career Academy network and the state of GA where the CEO position is funded by the three major partners (Glynn County School System, Coastal Pines Technical College and the Glynn County Business Community which makes up a majority of the Board of Directors).

GICA is poised for continued growth, offering state-of- the-art facilities and many exciting career pathways which prepare our students for successful, meaningful careers after graduation.
